Welcome to Flop Secrets
A Brave New Era in Doing Something Old, Like a Newsletter!
Hello! Come in, take a seat. No, not that one. That’s where I was going to sit, and besides, this is an email. What do you need a seat for anyway? You know what, forget that part.
I’d like to welcome you to Flop Secret, our new Flop House newsletter. Will the first few of these likely ALSO involve a certain amount of welcoming people? Probably! We’re still building our mailing list, so if we were to stop welcoming people now it would kind of like a rock band coming out and yelling “HELLO CLEVELAND!” when only three people were in the stadium, and then never mentioning it again. Bear with our repetition, is what I’m saying. But centuries from now, you’ll be able to tell your great grandchildren that YOU were there at the very start. (Y’all are going to live a VERY long time. Don’t ask me how, but… nanobots).
Anywhooo, as Elliott is fond of saying — why a newsletter? Why now? Well, to be honest, social media is kind of lousy, isn’t it? If we’re gonna be honest? But as a silly podcast that’s grown into a career, we still need to connect with our listeners in ways beyond the show itself. So we’re going back to one of the oldest ideas in the internet, and just mailing folks directly! This will be the best way to learn about LIVE SHOWS, and GUEST APPEARANCES ON OTHER PODCASTS, and LIVE STREAMS, and THE PEACHES’ SIDE PROJECTS. Why so many capital letters? Because of excitement and also because I haven’t learned how to bold or italicize things on this platform yet. But once I do? HOO DOGGIES!*
But also: we don’t want this to just be boring spam, so it’s my pledge to you that we’ll try to make this newsletter something to, if not look forward to, at least enjoy whenever it hits your inbox. Each installment will have a bit of writing, some artwork, or something extra to tug at your smile-strings.
What about that news we mentioned, though? If there’s one rule of a newsletter, it’s be brief, and that rule has been dangerously bent already, so let’s get straight to them!
Hear Ye On Main
What can you look forward to on the podcast?
JUNE 22 - Our next episode is on DISCLOSURE (1994) and features special guest Meredith Scardino, creator of Girls5Eva and writer on a billion funny things, from SNL, to Letterman, to Kimmy Schmidt, to The Colbert Report. She’s a goddamn delight, and she fit right in like she’d always been there, Shining-style.
Disclaimer: we had some unfortunate tech issues for the first several minutes of the show, resulting in some lousy audio. DO NOT FRET — it clears up within 8-10 minutes, and producer Alex did what he could with the problematic files. We’ve taken steps to keep it from happening again.
JUNE 29 - Our next Dan-led mini was inspired by his (okay, my) recent birthday on 6/19, a birthday that he shares with Garfield, the cartoon cat. Listen, and enjoy Elliott’s confusion and agitation that the intro about Garfield is a red herring, and that the episode is actually about birthday twins, as if he’s never experienced a creative way to back into a topic from an unexpected direction before!
Live Show Lookout
Our next live show is in Boston on July 26, at 7 pm at WBUR CitySpace. As of this writing, there are a very limited number of tickets left, but we’re close to selling out.
However, GOOD NEWS, both for anyone who missed a chance to buy, and anyone outside of the Boston area — WBUR is set up with several cameras and a switcher to cut between them in real time, and they have offered to also LIVESTREAM the show. Their live stream services won’t have all the high-gloss polish of our StagePilot shows, but the stream has a nice price to match — only $5! When that option comes available you can find it at the same events page.
Speaking of StagePilot streams… just a teaser so far, but we taped our Los Angeles THREE MEN AND A BABY Vidiots live show with extra-special beloved star of the show HALLIE HAGLUND, and we’re shooting for an August date to stream that online for the world! Plus, season two of Flop TV looms on the horizon! Six one-hour video shows, live every first Saturday of the month (or on demand, if you prefer), from September to February. We have a theme and movies set, and will be announcing the details soon!
Boys on the Side
What else are the Peaches up to?
Stuart has been doing painting livestreams on Twitch. (if you don’t know how to access Twitch, have a child explain it to you. The easiest way to be notified when he’s online is to subscribe to his channel, but also — on July 5th at 8 pm, he’ll be doing one of his special cooking streams “THE SLOP HOUSE,” where Dan cooks Stu a meal, Stuart provides cocktails, and they both answer questions from chatters — often read by Dan’s wife Audrey, unless if she has something better to do. Join us then!
Elliott continues writing Disney’s Hercules for Dynamite comics, and the third issue is in stores now! Go get one! Or multiple! (Only if you want to, though. We’re not your dads.)
Congratulations!
You read the whole thing. Here’s a comic Dan did, as a reward!
*I have to admit that, in the course of this email, I discovered how to do these things, but I let the sentiment stand FOR COMEDIC PURPOSES.
